Cases of cholera in Lebanon exceed 400

Beirut, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) Cholera cases in Lebanon rose to more than 400, after the disease emerged in the country for the second time since 1993.

The statistical report of the Ministry of Public Health confirmed 406 patients and 18 deaths, after reporting the first sick patient at the beginning of the previous month.

So far, cases have been registered in 34 communities in the Akkar region, in the north of the country, and 204 patients have been reported, more than half of the cases in Lebanon.

The statistical map shows there is at least one cholera patient in about 90 localities, with a higher incidence of the disease in the north of the country, Mount Lebanon, Bekka and Baalbeck Hermel.

The Ministry of Public Health guaranteed coverage of all treatment expenses for patients in government institutions and announced on Monday the arrival of 13,440 doses of vaccines from France.

Maintaining the safety of water sources in the municipalities, ensuring electrical service to the main vital water assets, pumping and treating waste are the focus of Lebanon’s strategy to reduce the risks of the spread of the disease.

According to the World Health Organization, cholera is an acute bacterial infection that affects the stomach and is transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food or water.
