Organizers of the rally against President Ranil Wickremesinghe reiterated their intention to draw a crowd, despite calls from the government and major business chambers to turn down the protest, due to the fact, they say, “it will undermine efforts to stabilize the economy, particularly tourism”.
More than 20 political parties are expected to attend the rally, including the main parliamentary opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Socialist Frontline Party, as well as some 150 civic and trade union organizations,as noted by ´The Morning´ newspaper.
