Ambassador Dai Bing said at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly that the White House maintains and further tightened the blockade with hundreds of measures approved during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He charged that apart from hindering the Cuban people’s access to medicines, materials, and other supplies necessary to fight and overcome the health crisis, the US stance violated the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.
The diplomat mentioned the negative impact of the blockade on Cuba’s efforts to fight poverty, as well as on the normal development of economic and financial cooperation with other nations.
Dai stressed China’s opposition to any unilateral measures with extraterritorial effects that affects the sovereignty of States, the interests and legitimate rights of any person or entity, and also free navigation.
“Dialogue as equals and friendly agreements are the best way to resolve differences (…) protectionism and harassment do not serve anyone’s interests,” the diplomat pointed out.
Dai finally urged the United States to immediately lift the hostile blockade and develop normal relations with Cuba in accordance with international standards, as this will benefit both countries, as well as peace and stability in the entire region.
This way, China joins several nations that also speak out against the US blockade by presenting their speeches before the international meeting and where a Cuban resolution is being debated on the necessity to end the US blockade, which will be voted on Thursday.
