Petro will travel to the Venezuelan capital with his work team to hold a lunch with the president of the neighboring country, added a note from the presidential press team.
According to the text, the issues to be discussed at the meeting of both leaders will be relations between the two countries, reopening of borders and the re-entry of Venezuela to the inter-American human rights system.
‘The meeting is part of President Gustavo Petro’s initiative to boost the region’s economy and socialize his agenda in favor of the interests of the Latin American bloc and the protection of the Amazon, as part of the preliminary meetings for COP 27’, added the note.
With the arrival of Petro to the presidency of Colombia, both countries reestablished their historic political and commercial relations, interrupted in 2019.
In February 2019, President Maduro announced the decision to break diplomatic relations with Colombia, blaming former President Iván Duque (2018-2022) for supporting aggression against the Bolivarian nation, in collusion with the United States and the Venezuelan extreme right.
