Former Peruvian presidential candidate calls for solidarity with Cuba

Lima, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) Former Peruvian Presidential Candidate Veronika Mendoza on Monday called on Latin America to raise its voice against the United States blockade against Cuba, which will be on the bench at the United Nations General Assembly again in the coming days.

She said, “We all Latin Americans must stand in solidarity with Cuba and raise our voices” against the blockade,” which she described as absurd and criminal.

Veronika Mendoza spoke to Prensa Latina on the occasion of the debate on a new Cuban resolution against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade.

“The blockade that the United States Government has imposed on the Cuban people for more than 60 years implies a systematic violation of human rights,” she asserted.

She noted that this policy is “totally anachronistic and perverse” and affects trade and investment, but also access to food, medicine and other essential supplies for Cubans.

She added that she expects that more US politicians speak out and act “so that their government leaves behind this absurd and criminal blockade.”
