Cuba’s team is headed by the director general of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cuban Residents Abroad, Ernesto Soberon.
Both parties are assessing the implementation of joint actions to discourage illegal acts associated to irregular migration, including the fight against human trafficking and the smuggling of migrants.
They are also analyzing the migration flow between Cuba and Uruguay and the possibilities of establishing cooperation mechanisms about that issue.
Cuba has so far held migration rounds with Mexico, Panama, and Belize.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), the Cuban Government is committed to the orderly and safe emigration of Cuban citizens and their right to travel, emigrate and return under the national legislation.
