According to the statement issued this Friday by the FSB, the group was made up of four individuals, fanatics of the ideology of the Azov regiment, an extreme right-wing and neonazi paramilitary organization banned in Russia.
Firearms, ready-made explosive devices and components to manufacture new ones were seized during the operation in the homes of the would-be perpetrators and in an cache in the Predgorni district of the Stavropol region.
The FSB also said that it seized materials on the organization of mass disturbances and documents proving the planning of a terrorist attack on one of the administrative facilities in the region.
The Russian judicial authorities initiated a criminal case under article 205 of the Criminal Code, dealing with acts of terrorism, the FSB stated.
The Stavropol region is located in the North Caucasus, and is considered an important communications hub between Russia and the Caucasian countries of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
