Russia denounces blockade of fertilizers by Europe

Moscow, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) Russian Foreign Ministry denounced the blocking of its fertilizers in warehouses in European countries as a result of unilateral sanctions, said a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Some 80 percent of the fertilizers remain blocked mainly in warehouses in Latvia, as well as in Estonia, Belgium and the Netherlands, whose authorities do not allow their shipment through the World Food Program, the press release reported.

According to Moscow, despite declarations from Washington and Brussels on lifting restrictions on Russian food and fertilizers, Russian suppliers and producers continue to experience problems in making bank and insurance payments, renting ships and gaining access to ports.

“We are ready to export about 30 million tons of grain, including, first of all, wheat, and bring this figure to 50 million tons, taking the harvest into account ,” the report of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.

In addition, the statement criticized that Ukrainian cargo does travel through the humanitarian corridor to Europe and developed countries, while Russia has obstacles in sending supplies to countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

According to the UN, 390 ships sailed through the humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea on October 26th carrying over eight million tons of food from the ports of Odessa, Yuzhny and Chernomorsk.

On July 22nd, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations Secretariat signed agreements in Istanbul on the supply of Ukrainian food, fertilizers and Russian agricultural products to the international market.
