Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office probes energy minister for corruption

Quito, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) The Ecuadorian Prosecutor's Office on Friday continues with an investigation against Energy and Mines Minister Xavier Vera for alleged acts of corruption.

On Thursday evening, police raided two properties in Quito and one in Guayaquil as part of the investigation against Vera on bribery and the previous search of a hotel room in northern Quito for the same case, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Audios released this week by La Posta digital media revealed that Vera allegedly sold jobs in Petroecuador state company and the Agency for Regulation and Control of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources for two million dollars.

He was also accused of having a disability card and benefiting from tax exemptions.

Legislators of the Pachakutik party and the Union for Hope Alliance (UNES) asked for his resignation and announced that they promote a political trial against the executive.

The minister of Energy and Mines denied all accusations and stated that he would go to court to denounce the information leaked.
