On Twitter, the Cuban diplomatic representation also expressed its gratitude for CELAC and EU High Representative Josep Borrell to condemn U.S, blockade and the “inclusion of Cuba in the US list of States sponsoring terrorism”.
During the 3rd CELAC Summit and the European Union, held on Thursday in Argentina -attended by over 50 countries, the Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez called for sovereignty respect.
Rodríguez championed non-interference as well as the inalienable right of each State to decide its own system without impositions of pretended paradigms of culture, democracy and human rights.
He recalled that the United States, in its expansionist and interventionist eagerness, has always intended to turn our nations into its backyard, plundering wealth and natural resources in the region.
Likewise, the Cuban minister thanked CELAC and EU for rejecting the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for over 60 years, “a measure that has been extremely tightened, causing damages to the Cuban people”.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX), the US blockade caused a loss of over $3 billion from August 2021 to February 2022, a historical record figure for such a reduced period.
During the first 14 months of Joe Biden’s administration, damages caused by the blockade amounted to over $6 billion, which means more than $454 million per month and more than $15 million a day in damages, he added.
