The EU reported in a statement that while awaiting the adoption of a formal legal initiative, the bloc agreed to reduce CO2 emissions by 55% for brand-new cars and 50% for new vans by 2030.
Meanwhile, EU authorities also stressed that in the case of tourism vehicles and vans, 2035 should arrive with 100% CO2-free emissions.
Closing a first deal on a proposal from the ‘Fit for 55’ package is a strong signal that the EU is determined to make progress towards climate neutrality and the green transition.
Zero-emission mobility will be a building block for slowing down climate change that can create severe disruptions in many sectors of our society, including environment, migration, food security and the economy.
