The plenary session of this event, at the Kirchner Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, is beign presided by President Alberto Fernández, according to Argentina’s Communication and Press Secretariat.
Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, recently highlighted the importance of the event in promoting talks between both blocs and in strengthening inter-regional cooperation.
They also discussed the urgency of increasing collaboration in strategic sectors such as energy and food and also called for an increase of joint actions against climate change, gender equality, human rights, education, culture, digitalization, and biotechnology.
After their 23rd meeting, CELAC foreign ministers issued a joint statement on Wednesday in which they underlined the relevance of expanding ties with extra-regional partners and ratified their commitment in building a more just, inclusive, equitable, and harmonious international order.
They also insisted on the need of guaranteeing respect for international laws, sovereign equality of the States, cooperation for development, territorial integrity, and non-intervention in internal affairs.
