Russia launches Progress MS-21 cargo spacecraft

Moscow, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) Russia on Wednesday sent the Progress MS-21 cargo spacecraft into orbit carrying more than 2.5 tons of supplies to the International Space Station (ISS) from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

According to the Space Mission Control Center, the spacecraft lifted off aboard a Soyuz-2.1 rocket, and all preparation and orbit entry operations were successful, Sputnik news agency reported this Wednesday.

The flight to the ISS will take two days, so the docking with the ‘Poisk’ research module of the Russian segment of the ISS is scheduled for Friday.

The spacecraft has to deliver to ISS 702 kg of refueling fuel, 420 kg of water, and 41 kg of nitrogen.

It also carries about 1,357 kg of various equipment and materials, including devices for the modules of the Russian segment of the ISS, personal protective equipment, medical control, and sanitary and hygienic support.

Clothing, fresh food rations, and New Year’s gifts for the seven-crew members of the ISS are also among the cargo.
