Moscow, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) Russia's Energy Minister, Nikolai Shulginov, and Iran’s Oil Minister, Javad Owji, discussed cooperation in the supply of fossil fuels and their derivatives.

The parties also considered the preparations for the meeting of the Russia-Iran intergovernmental commission, as well as the issues of cooperation in the production of oil and gas, as per a note from the Russian Ministry of Energy published on Wednesday at the end of the meeting between Shulginov and Owji.

The meeting also addressed the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation between Russia’s Gazprom and Iranian oil company NIOC, and interaction in the electricity sector.

Shulginov stressed that they agreed to continue study work on the possibility of interconnecting the energy systems of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran.

According to estimates by the Russian side, if cooperation in fuel supply is implemented, about five million tons of oil and 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year can be reached in the exchange only in the first phase.
