Sitrang began to cross the coast of Bangladesh on Monday night accompanied by heavy rain and tides several meters high.
Since overnight, authorities have reported uprooted trees blocking roads in several coastal districts and fallen power poles and many areas plunged into darkness.
The tropical storm left about eight million people without power, authorities said.
Deputy Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman said some 10,000 homes were damaged or destroyed throughout the country.
Also, more than six thousand hectares of crops were destroyed and thousands of fishing projects were also devastated, as per the Ada Derana website.
United News of Bangladesh reported that some 20,000 people were cut off due to tidal flooding in the southern coastal district of Bhola.
