The COP27 will run amid a global context of geopolitical tension and polarization, Shoukry said in an interview with WAM news agency published in Cairo.
Let us hope that the current context does not make it more difficult to address common challenges, especially climate change, he said.
About the issue, he called to avoid during the event the discussion of ongoing international conflicts, disputes, and frictions ‘because any failure to address the challenges of climate change or any backtracking on climate promises will lead the world to a no return point.’
The foreign minister stated that this was the message we sent to all stakeholders in the last few months, whether through the informal ministerial meetings held this year or during the preparatory event for COP27.
