Russia supports extending use of International Space Station

Estacion-Espacial-Internacional-768x576
Moscow, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said on Sunday that extending the International Space Station (ISS)'s operations until 2028 is possible.

The Russian segment of the ISS can operate until the date on which the new national station will be deployed in its minimum condition, Manturov told Sputnik news agency on Sunday.

The senior official stated that the extension of the ISS program would take place after the results of formal procedures in the national space agencies and governments of the countries that participate in the ISS project.

Manturov recalled that the ISS operations are governed by an intergovernmental agreement among the participating countries, which are using the space station until late 2024.

The Russian official assured that the problems that would prevent extending the ISS beyond 2024 have no solution.

He thus clarified that Energia Corporation, which is part of the Russian Space Agency, worked to confirm the technical possibility of extending the service life of the modules and equipment of the Russian segment of the ISS.

In 2021, NASA decided to extend the flight of the US segment of the ISS until 2030 and asked partners, including Russia’s Roscosmos, to continue to cooperate in the ISS program until 2030, the deputy prime minister said.
