At the ceremony, held on Friday, Guterres reviewed major milestones of cooperation between the both sides and praised significant achievements.
These results, he said, testify to the resilience and efforts by the Vietnamese people to overcome difficulties and Vietnam’s policy of putting people at the center of development.
Guterres also praised Vietnam for accelerating the coal use reduction, launching a renewable energy revolution and achieving the zero gas emissions by 2050; although he admitted that Vietnam requires support to speed up the economic transformation and greening process.
At the commemoration ceremony, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that for the Indochinese nation to become the 149th member of the UN was the beginning of a historic journey in national construction and defense.
