‘It is a celebration of all Cubans determined to defend what we are. My congratulations and hugs for the writers, artists and cultural workers’, the headline said on his Twitter social network account.
Starting at 10:00 local time, the country’s cultural institutions joined in a tweet in tribute to the anniversary of the first time the Bayamo anthem was sung, on October 20, 1868.
The commemoration began on October 10, 154th anniversary of the beginning of the struggle for independence on the island, when the patriotic lawyer Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (1819-1874) freed his slaves and raised arms to the Cubans.
The day is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Nueva Trova Movement and was planned with a special community approach, so that creators of the most diverse artistic manifestations perform in the neighborhoods, where local talent is exalted.
According to the organizers, the main objective of the celebration is to exalt the richness of culture through recitals, exhibitions, panels, workshops that, in the midst of a recovery process after the effects of Hurricane Ian, will not lose its spiritual essence.
As part of the festivities, this Thursday the 27th edition of the Alicia Alonso International Ballet Festival of Havana will be inaugurated, which will run until November 13 with the presence of national and foreign figures.
