Relations at the current stage between Damascus and Hamas will be limited exclusively to the “resistance” current in this group and not to the one represented by the Muslim Brotherhood, the sources detailed.
They stated that the delegation that will visit Syria will be headed by Khalil al-Hayya, the movement’s official in charge of inter-Arab relations.
This step comes after statements made by the leaders of the group expressing their appreciation to the Syrian government and people for their support of the Palestinian people and their just cause, and their intention to return and develop ties with Damascus.
Hamas leaders left Syria in 2012 after siding with the opposition to the Damascus government.
This position was considered a betrayal by the Syrian authorities, who claimed to have been subjected to enormous pressure for years for having welcomed the Palestinian movement.
