A roadside IED near the town of Saboura, 15 kilometers northwest of Damascus, exploded next to a military bus, killing 19 soldiers and injuring 27 others.
According to General Oleg Egorov, deputy head of the Syrian-Russian Coordination Center of the Russian Defense Ministry based at the Hmeimim airbase, in the Latakia province, the operation took place in the city of Jassem, Deraa province, at about 100 kilometers south of the capital.
Two dozen jihadists belonging to the Islamic State were neutralized during the operation, including four who carried out the attack on the vehicle, the officer reported.
