President of Cuba regrets death of minor in house collapse

Havana, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, expressed his condolences to the family of the girl Ismary Orozco, who died today in this capital as a result of a building collapse in Old Havana.

On his Twitter account, the president stated: ‘We deeply regret the death of the girl Ismary Orozco, in a collapse that occurred in Old Havana. Please extend our condolences to her parents and family who we accompany in these difficult hours.

He added that ‘authorities in the capital are attending to this painful situation from early on’.

According to press reports, two women and a minor were victims of the accident that occurred this Monday in a three-story building in the oldest area of ​​the city, who were immediately treated at the Calixto García and Juan Manuel Márquez hospitals.

According to an informative note, at 07:10 local time, a roof slab collapsed in a room of building 466 located between Egido and Villegas streets, which affected the lower building.

The local and provincial authorities moved to the scene immediately, along with firefighters, ambulances and forces from the Ministry of the Interior, the text referred, according to which they continued to monitor the actions at the scene and the search for another minor.

For his part, Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in this province, and Governor Reinaldo García Zapata, visited health institutions to inquire about the care and condition of those affected, reported the Portal of Havana Citizens.
