The diplomat said that, unlike what happened in October 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis, Washington continues its escalation in Ukraine by proxy, without harm to itself.

By acting as a puppeteer, the United States plans to continue war against Russia using foreign hands, of Ukrainians in the role of hostages and victims, but it is a dangerous chimera, Riabkov warned.

“I would like to hope that the politicians in Washington will finally assume their responsibility for the destinies of the world, just as the Soviet and American leaders did when working out a political, diplomatic solution during the Missile Crisis,” Ryabkov said.

“This is required by both good common sense and the essence of the declarations adopted at the highest level by Russia and the United States, as well as by the five nuclear states, that a war using such weapons is inadmissible,” Ryabkov stressed.

The Cuban Missile Crisis, known in Cuba as the October Crisis, was a drastic escalation of tension that took place in 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union after the discovery of the deployment of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuban territory, in the midst of a tenacious campaign of aggression by Washington against Cuba.
