The Taqa Arabia firm explained in a statement that the facility will begin producing 20 megawatts as part of the project to turn the town into a “green city”.
Taqa Power director Sami Abdelkader detailed that the $12.7 million project will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 500,000 tons during its 25-year period of operation.
At the end of August, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, inaugurated a new solar power plant in the east of the country.
Under its Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, Egypt aims to increase the supply of electricity generated from renewable sources to 42 percent of the total by 2035.
In July, the cabinet highlighted that Egypt is leading the Arab countries in combined solar and wind power generation by increasing output by 3.5 gigawatts (GW), although the figure is expected to grow up to 6.8 by 2024.
