At the beginning of the meeting, held at the diplomatic mission of the Caribbean nation, Ambassador Mirta Granda highlighted the importance of this meeting with compatriots, who despite the geographical distance remain close to their land, which they love and defend.
González began her intervention with an overview of the difficult economic situation that Cuba is facing, as a consequence of the strengthening of the US blockade in times of pandemic.
She also referred to the impact of the conflict in Ukraine, which is causing food and fuel prices to rise globally, as well as the effects of climate change, causing a severe drought and Hurricane Ian, which recently affected the western provinces of the island. .
She expressed the gratitude of the Cuban people and government to the compatriots who offered their solidary support to those affected by the storm, as before after the explosion at the Saratoga hotel in Havana and the fire at the supertanker base in Matanzas.
These, she said, are beautiful gestures derived largely from the teachings of our revolutionary process, “always ready to offer its solidarity to the world, and promote it among ourselves, something that today characterizes our people and distinguishes us.”
The deputy minister emphasized that, despite this complex panorama, Cuban authorities are making enormous efforts to solve the problems and advance in the development of the country.
The constitution of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) was approved and the possibilities for foreign investment were expanded with a business portfolio that includes almost 700 projects and new facilities related to wholesale and retail trade.
The senior official emphasized that it is the will of the Cuban State and Government to strengthen ties with its nationals abroad and support their investments in all sectors.
She pointed out that, within the current business portfolio, there are more than 100 local development projects, which can enable them to invest in the place where they were born and where they have their families.
In this sense, she invited them to participate in the 38th International Fair of Havana, from November 14 to 18, where an important space is reserved for Cubans residing abroad, who will even have a forum dedicated to them.
