The earthquake took place on Thursday, at 00:44, local time. The epicenter was out at sea, off the coast of the province, as per the report published by the Il Gazzettino newspaper and other local media.
Hundreds of inhabitants of the historic center of Catanzaro took to the streets as a result of the telluric movement that was felt in most of the region, mainly in the towns of Soverato, Crotone, Cosenza and Vibo Valentia.
During this morning, smaller magnitude aftershocks occurred at 00:50, 00:55 and 01:25, local time, with an epicenter in the San Floro area, but so far no victims or significant material damage have been reported, according to the sources.
