Cuba thanks UN for support after Hurricane Ian´s wake

Havana, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Thursday thanked the United Nations for its strong support to Cuban families affected after the passage of Hurricane Ian across western region of Cuba.

“On behalf of the Cuban people and government, we thank the valuable support of the United Nations System to our recovery from Hurricane Ian. Its contribution will allow us to benefit many affected families,” Bruno Rodríguez posted on Twitter.

On Wednesday, the UN submitted a $42 million plan to support Cuba, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website.

UN´s spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said this initiative should benefit nearly 800,000 inhabitants and includes $3.7 million reallocated from UN team´s financing, as well as an additional $7.8 million from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund.

The multilateral agency praised this new plan supports immediate response efforts and long-term recovery needs in different sectors such as housing, health, education, food security, and access to clean water and electricity.
