Vietnam enhances international prestige, deputy FM says

Vietnam-ONU-1
Hanoi, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu on Wednesday praised his country's election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) as proof that the position and prestige of Vietnam are enhanced.

The international community expects Vietnam works to protect human rights and contribute to joint efforts of the international community in this work, the diplomat said.

Speaking to VNA news agency, Hieu noted that the election also represents a breakthrough in implementing the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s foreign policy and the directive of the Central Committee Secretariat on the promotion of multilateral relations until 2030.

The official also considered that Vietnam’s participation in the major tasks undertaken by the United Nations, which range from politics and development to promoting and protecting human rights, is wise.

He recalled that this country has actively and responsibly participated in the activities of the Council since its foundation and successfully played its role as its member from 2014 to 2016, contributing to protecting national interests and raising its position and prestige in the international arena.

The election of Vietnam and 13 other countries to the United Nations Human Rights Council as of January 2023 for a three-year term took place during the 77th session of the General Assembly on Tuesday.
