The Polish operator specified that the section is used to supply Russian oil to Germany, and at the moment the causes of what happened are unknown, the Sputnik agency reported on Wednesday.
Emergency services gathered on the site to assess the situation, ensure safety in the area and begin repairs to the damaged branch.
In turn, Karol Kierzkowski, spokesman for the head of the Polish Fire Service, confirmed that the shipment of oil through said branch has stopped and that the fuel spilled is being transported in tankers.
For her part, Barbora Putzova, spokesperson for the MERO company, which operates the Czech section of the pipeline, stated that the supply to the Czech Republic continues normally, according to the schedule, there are no changes, so it is likely that the leak was caused by incidental damage.
The Druzha pipeline was opened in the 1970s and transports Russian oil from the Samara region to Germany and the Czech Republic via Belarus, Poland, Estonia and Lithuania.
