CPAG group warned that child poverty would increase in UK

britanicos-ninos
London, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) More than 200,000 children could fall into poverty in the United Kingdom if the Government increases social benefits based on salary, instead of inflation, a charity organization warned today.

According to a report published by the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG), the calculation was made based on a salary increase of five percent, compared to an inflation rate of close to 10 percent.

The United Kingdom suffers from catastrophic child poverty, and the Government will ruin the lives of many more children unless it does something, said the entity’s executive director, Alison Garnham, quoted by the Sky News chain.

According to reports, the Conservative Prime Minister, Liz Truss, and the Minister of the Treasury, Kwasi Kwarteng, intend to adjust the social benefits for people with lower incomes in line with the average salary increase, as part of their controversial economic strategy to boost development. from the country.

A spokesman for Truss’s office assured the press on Tuesday that the decision in this regard will be announced on October 31, when the government publishes the details of how it intends to finance the so-called mini-budget.

According to the CPAG, around 3.9 million children lived in poverty in the UK between 2020 and 2021, a figure that is equivalent to 27 per cent of all children in the country, or eight out of every class of 30 students.

The charity added that 46 percent of children from black or other ethnic minority families suffer from this scourge, compared to 26 percent of those raised in white families.
