The call was made by Home Affairs, Environment, Intergovernmental Relations and Parliamentary Leader Suella Braverman, Ranil Jayawardena, Nadhim Zahawi and Penny Mordaunt, respectively.
Those plotting against Truss are helping to usher in a Labour government and seriously jeopardizing the possibility of a Conservative victory in coming 2024 election, Braverman said in The Sun tabloid.
The environment minister sent a similar message to his party’s MPs, warning through the Sunday Express that they must support Truss, because if they do not do so, the result will be a Labour government, supported by the Scottish Independents and the Liberal Democrats.
Zahawi, on the other hand, turned to the Mail´s Sunday edition to urge his colleagues to unite behind Truss, “not against her”.
In all cases, the four senior ministers were careful to stress the danger of a defeat in coming 2024 elections.
Truss´ tax plan unsettled financial markets, triggering a record Sterling drop that forced the Bank of England to step in to shore it up.
Although the government reversed its decision to reduce the amount of income tax for higher-income earners, there is speculation that Truss may cut public funds and social benefits to finance his controversial economic plan.
