They are using US-supplied 155mm howitzers to shell the city, the spokesman for the Zaporozhye provincial administration, Vladimir Rogov, confirmed in an interview broadcasted on Friday by the ‘Soloviov Live’ channel.
Rogov stated that the frequency of attacks by the Ukrainian forces grew in a range that oscillates between 20 and 40 daily.
For his part, the acting governor of Zaporozhye province, Evgueni Balitski, ruled out the advance of the Ukrainian army towards Energodar and the nuclear power plant facilities.
The units assigned to the protection of the city and the Zaporozhye NPP maintain their combat readiness, and remain vigilant so as to reduce the probability of an attack or an offensive, Balitski said.
Russia currently controls 75 percent of the province, the rest, including the homonymous provincial capital, remains in the hands of the Ukrainian military.
