Cholera death toll in Syria rises to 39

Damascus, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) The number of infected and dead from cholera outbreaks in Syria continues to rise; the disease has caused three new deaths and 70 infected since its outbreak on last September 10th.

According to the update published by the Ministry of Health, the national total of infections increased to 594, 386 of which correspond to Aleppo, 84 to Deir Ezzor, 45 to Hasakeh, 26 to Raqa, 21 to Latakia and six to Damascus itself.

The death toll at the national level rose to 39; the main cause of death, according to the Ministry, is the delay in going to health centers to request medical care.

Aleppo remains the province with the highest number of deaths (34), followed by Hasakeh (3) and Deir Ezzor (2).

Syria has been facing an war since 2011 that affected its health system and caused a deterioration in services, which degraded the healthcare provided to the population.
