On Twitter, the Blue Party member made the call to the president public assuring it is a criterion shared with House Representatives Gregory Meeks and Jim McGovern.
“In the wake of Hurricane Ian, @RepGregoryMeeks, @RepMcGovern and I are calling @POTUS to immediately offer humanitarian assistance to the Cuban people,” Lee tweeted, while adding that it is not time to let the history between the two countries stand in the way of cooperation.
Through the letter, Lee made clear her support for the growing demand to aid the Cuban people who, after Hurricane Ian´s wake, are currently facing up the worsening of an already harsh economic situation aggravated by the tightening of the U.S. government’s blockade.
Currently, several solidarity organizations with Cuba such as the Global Anti-Blockade Movement (NEMO), CubanaKoa Foundation and the EL PAN Project, are raising funds in the United States to aid the Cuban people hit by the life-threatening hurricane.
In a joint statement, these solidarity groups called for contributions to benefitting children´s wards, community centers, nursing homes and those people most hit by the hurricane Ian´s wake.
