The Federal Council of the Association of Teachers of the University of the Republic (ADUR), the major public university, declared a teachers’ strike as of October 4.
The measure is in defense of the budget, study and working conditions, and salary recovery, according to a communiqué.
Earlier on accountability, the resources the university professors considered less than the sector’s needs were approved in the Senate of the Republic.
The ADUR states that, although the government has “injected resources to the accountability,” they “are insufficient to attend the university urgencies.”
This university union considered that the funds approved “are equivalent to less than a third of what is required to ensure that the relation between the number of teachers and students does not deteriorate even more.”
