Int´l solidarity supports Cuba´s recovery efforts

Pinar del Río, Cuba, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Some eight tons of medical supplies arrived on Sunday in Pinar del Río donated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in order to contribute to health care after the passage of Hurricane Ian.

According to José Moya, WHO and PAHO representative in Cuba, the batch includes over 100 modules of medicines as well as surgical materials.

In statements to Television Cubana, Mora heaped praise on how speedy this medical shipment was taken to Pinar del Río province, region most hit and affected by Category 3 Hurricane Ian, with sustained winds of more than 200 km/h and heavy rains.

Private entrepreneurs and individuals have also sent food, household goods and cloth donations to this western province to aid locals.

Meanwhile, in the affected municipalities, locals collaborated in collecting debris, in spite of the fact that they have had difficulties with basic services for a week.

Brigades from other districts and provinces are collaborating in these solidarity mission, while power lineworkers are being deeply involved in the efforts to restore the western province´s power service.
