Uruguayan children are most hit by poverty, says INE

Montevideo, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) Abject poverty most affects Uruguayan children whose families are currently facing up such a situation, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Child poverty, in children under six years of age, reached 22.5% in the first semester of the year, INE reported. Such a figure doubles the estimated toll for the general population, which was 10.7%.

This child population percentage is the one that increased the most since 2021, according to information published.

The President Luis Lacalle Pou administration claimed that caring for children´s poverty situation is one of its major concerns.

To this end, the government passed a $50 million budget rise starting this year, focused on children aged zero to three years.
