According to the PowerOutage.us portal, in Florida, where hurricane Ian hammered past Wednesday and left unquantified damage, about 1.23 million Americans are still with no power service.
After its landfall in Florida and skirting the East Coast of the United States, the cyclone entered South Carolina on Friday, knocking out power for some 39,000 people.
Ian is presently making landfall in North Carolina and should dissipate in Virginia Saturday tonight, but in those regions, about 258,000 and 70,000 people, respectively, are nowadays with no power service.
According to CNN, although Florida Power & Light Company restored power to 1.4 million people, it could take “weeks to turn on the lights for everyone”.
The company’s Communication Director David Reuter said it would take longer to restore power service in the western counties of Florida, where Ian made landfall as category 4.
In its passage across the country, Ian left ruined buildings, roofless homes, collapsed roads, flooded areas and killed at least 45 people, according to CNN. pll/mv/cgc
