In a letter addressed to President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Ziuganov also expressed his party’s support for the thousands of Cubans affected by the passage of the meteor, the official website of the party highlighted.

“On behalf of the Russian communists, I convey to the people and government of Cuba the words of sympathy and sincere support of comrades,” Zyuganov said in the letter.

The Russian communist leader also recalled that the heroic people of the “Island of Freedom” have experienced many difficulties for many decades, caused by the cruel blockade of the US authorities.

“Natural disasters have become another challenge that your country must face with courage,” Ziuganov wrote in his letter, and added that he was confident that Cuba will overcome this adversity and maintain the ideals of freedom, independence and socialism.
