According to French unions, marches and rallies would conduct in over 200 cities nationwide, in a first day of interprofessional mobilization also supported by strikes on education, railroad, energy sectors, as well as public transport in Paris.

The strike was particularly notable among nuclear plant workers where a power drop was seen during the morning, as five reactors were affected by the stoppage.

Famous Eiffel Tower and Palace of Versailles were also shut down, as workers made up their mind to join the protest calling for increased wages and pensions in order to face up unprecedented inflation.

Thousands of people took to the streets of Marseilles, the country’s second city, where the France Insoumise Leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon and a large group of dockworkers were present holding a banner ‘Retirement at 60s’, in opposition to Macron´s decision of extending retirement to 65.

All French trade unions are planning to hold a meeting on October 3, in order to envisage carrying out common actions against Macron´s pension reform, and at the end of which ‘there could be an announcement of demonstration’, trade union sources pointed out.
