On his Twitter account, the Cuban leader sent a hug to “brother President Maduro” and said the Cuban people “championed love and social justice, rights and respect for families”. Cuba is love!, he concluded.
On Monday, the Venezuelan president congratulated the Cubans people for their participation in the popular referendum on September 25, where the new law was supported with 66.87% of the votes.
“I congratulate the Cuban people for their extraordinary participation in the Popular Referendum of the #CódigoDeLasFamilias (Family Code), passed with over 60% of the popular votes,” the Venezuelan leader posted on Twitter.
The National Electoral Council (CEN) informed on Monday that as many as 6,251,786 Cubans exercised their right to vote in the popular referendum, which accounted for 74.01%.
CEN notified that 3,936,790 Cubans voted Yes; while 1,950,090 voted No.
The new law will come into force as of its publication on Tuesday on the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cuba.
