In Ulianov’s words, the Russian government agrees with the criteria of the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, on the importance of guaranteeing nuclear security, he stressed to the TASS news agency during an interview on Monday.
Until now, Rafael Grossi formulated only a general conceptual framework, the meaning of which is the need for effective measures to prevent a nuclear accident and the inadmissibility of using a nuclear power plant as an object or springboard for hostilities, Ulianov said.
“We fully share these principles, because for Moscow it is necessary that the Ukrainian side stop firing at the Zaporozhye plant,” the official stressed.
The diplomat also pointed out that it is necessary to specify the proposal presented by Grossi to guarantee the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP.
“Since the constant presence of an IAEA mission at the nuclear power plant did not prevent the Ukrainian shelling from being stopped, Grossi’s proposal to ensure nuclear and physical security at the nuclear power plant must be realized,” Ulianov said.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian forces launched several attacks on the facility using drones, heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers in recent days.
