In its latest warning, ISMET also reported about heavy showers and rains, videoed by the meteorological station based in Batabanó municipality, in the western province of Mayabeque.
Satellite images and Cuban radars showed the outer bands crossing over a large part of the country, the report highlighted.
Maximum winds continue increasing and reaching up to 135 km/h, while the meteorological event already reached Category 2.
Minimum central pressure dropped to 976 hPa, heading north-northwest at 20 km/h.
At 15:00 p.m., local time, Hurricane Ian´s central region was estimated at 19.9 degrees north latitude and 83.1 degrees west longitude, a position that places it 175 km off south of Carapachibey, Isle of Youth and about 295 km off southeast of Cape San Antonio, western end of Pinar del Rio.
In coming six to 12 hours, Hurricane Ian will continue approaching the Isle of Youth and the south of this province, passing over a region with favorable conditions for its speedy strengthening.
