The boat’s tour on the largest intermontane lake in the country, more than 50 kilometers away from this central Cuban city, began after 6:30 hours, local time, on Sunday from a dock in the rural Hanabanilla community.

The electoral journey began in the La Lima district and continued to other places such as Rincon, El Naranjito, Rio Negro, and Pica Pica, the last destination of the trip.

The mountain peasants, who belong to Escambray’s Turquino plan, began to descend from the hillside on foot or by mule, but with the decision to vote.

Eliecer Curbelo, the skipper of the boat Siguanea, the venue of the 63rd district’s floating polling station, told reporters that while sailing the waters, he warns the voters with a siren.

Curbelo, who has been at the helm of this boat in other People’s Power elections, praised the traditional punctuality of residents, such as farmer Antonio Piñeiro.

“Whenever there are elections, the inhabitants of this mountain range take it as a celebration, a jubilee that should increase today because it is a code that will benefit all Cuban families,” he said.
