Kamala Harris will lead US delegation at Shinzo Abe’s funeral

Washington, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) US Vice President Kamala Harris will lead the official delegation from this country to attend the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe next Tuesday, the White House announced today.

As reported by President Joe Biden, Washington’s ambassador to Tokyo, Rahm Emanuel, trade representative Katherine Tai, Senator Bill Hagerty, and National Security Adviser Philip Gordon, along with other personalities, will also participate as part of the representation.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that representatives of countries and international organizations assured her presence on September 27 at the Nippon Budokan memorial hall in the capital.

Confirmed foreign guests include Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India; Anthony Albanese, Australia; and Justin Trudeau, Canada; in addition to the Vietnamese president, Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Shinzo Abe died at the age of 67 on July 8, after being shot in the chest while giving an election speech.

Born on September 21, 1954, the politician was the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party and Prime Minister of Japan from 2006 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2020.
