Georgia advocates for European Union candidate status

United Nations, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday advocated in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly for his country to be recognized as a candidate to the European Union (EU).

To achieve this goal, Georgia has developed a long-term plan that includes the improvement of its economy and the development of infrastructure, Garibahsvili stressed in his speech on Tuesday.

The Georgian leader pointed out that three decades ago, his country became a United Nations’ member, and in the last 10 years, it has enjoyed peace, prosperity and development.

Garibashvili also thanked the international community for its support to the integrity and sovereignty of the country.

The Georgian leader also referred to the importance of cooperation between the South Caucasus countries, located on the strategic path between Central Asia and the Western world.

The Georgian leader stressed that along with regional challenges are also the global ones such as the recent pandemic and climate change, which have demonstrated the need to work collectively.

Finally, Garibashvili considered Georgia’s pro-European and pro-Euro-Atlantic vocation as a way to achieve development and stability in his country.
