“In the current situation, I believe that it is necessary to make some decisions that are appropriate in the face of the threats we face,” the president said on Wednesday in his address to the nation.
Putin added that in order to ensure the security of the people and the people in the liberated territories, he considered it necessary to support the proposal of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff to carry out a partial mobilization.
The president announced that he signed the corresponding decree and that he will inform both chambers of the Federation Parliament this Wednesday.
As he specified, the partial mobilization implies the call-up starting September 21st only of reservists and, above all, those who served in the armed forces.
They will receive additional military training using the experience acquired during the special operation for the liberation of Donetsk and Lugansk, he said.
Russia has been conducting a military operation since February 24th to halt the bombing by the government of Vladimir Zelenski of the civilian population of the two territories that declared themselves independent from Ukraine after the coup in Kiev back in 2014.
