Syria and WHO review cooperation to improve health response

Damascus, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) The president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, and the director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization (WHO), Ahmed al-Mandhari, examined ways to promote collaboration in the health field.

The talks dealt with the coordination of actions between the WHO and the institutions of the Syrian health sector with the aim of offering a better health response in terms of fighting epidemics and diseases, the Presidency reported in a press release.

The Syrian president urged unity in confronting diseases that spread and are transmitted from one country to another. Al-Mandhari, in turn, expressed appreciation for the support and facilities provided by Syria to the work of the WHO, noting the good partnership and close cooperation.

The deputy foreign minister, Bashar al-Jaafari, assured that the politicization of the work of some international organizations leads to a weakening of their role.

The WHO’s move away from politicization has greatly contributed to its success in Syria and the world, the diplomat said during the reception of the WHO regional director.
