Mirzoyan confirmed Yerevan’s willingness to reach a multilateral settlement of relations, as per the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, after the meeting at the United Nations headquarters between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
During the meeting, Mirzoyan noted that Azerbaijani troops must be withdrawn from the sovereign territory of Armenia and that the use of force or the threat of resorting to it is inadmissible.
Mirzoyan also commented that international mechanisms need to be used to prevent further escalation of the situation on the common border.
The Armenian minister also stressed the importance of a rapid resolution of humanitarian problems, including the repatriation of prisoners of war.
Armenia requested support from Russia, to which it is bound by a treaty of friendship, cooperation and reciprocal aid, as well as from its allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The warring parties ceased fire on September 14th thanks to Russia’s mediation.
