Viengsay Valdés, general director of the Cuban company, declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation in Cuba, highlighted in statements to Prensa Latina the audience’s participation in this event that is a call to dance.
She pointed out that people from different Colombian regions and other countries came to Cali to enjoy the festival, currently held every two years.
The famous dancer stated this Festival tries to spread the art of ballet, which is usually elitist in many countries, but it wants to reach an audience in this city which can appreciate it.
“All this is an example that dance has a great power to move human beings,” said Viengsay, a dancer considered one of the greatest exponents of the Cuban School of Ballet and who continues the legacy of prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso.
Companies such as the Metropolitan Ballet of Medellín (Colombia), the Sodre National Ballet (Uruguay); the Balleto del Sud (Italy), the Dominican National Ballet, the National Ballet of Peru, and the Colombian Ballet Company also participated in Finba-2022.
